CARRBORO, N.C. -- Renovations are planned for the pump track, the cycling feature located at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 1120 Hillsborough Road.
Initial project work is scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 30, with improvements underway through January 2025. The track will be partially closed initially and then completely closed during the project duration.
The Town of Carrboro’s Recreation, Parks & Cultural Resources Department will contract with Nature Trails, a trail design and construction firm, for the renovation work. Improvements will result in a slightly different track layout and better drainage. Improvements will feature a rain garden with about 80 native pollinator plants in the drain areas.
Did you know? A pump track is a purpose-built track for cycling. It has a circuit of rollers, banked turns and features designed to be ridden completely by riders "pumping" — generating momentum by up and down body movements, instead of pedaling or pushing.
